The Calipari Effect

Wonder why EVERYONE wants to play for John Calipari?

Cal and Players thoughts last night

After another historic NBA Draft for John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats, their reactions started to come out on twitter.

Cal: "Somebody told me they are going to call it the Blue Room instead of the Green Room".

Cal's response to Frank Martins tweet about recruiting: I know he's calling recruits, because they are calling and telling me.

Cal: "I don't know what else to do for recruiting. How did you beat us for a kid?"

Cal: "This year has been so good I might retire"

Kidd-Gilchrist on Twitter:

MikeGillie14: Cant wait to get things going with the @bobcats. Happy to be in Charlotte. #NBA

Cal on Gilchrist going to a horrible Bobcats team..
"When you get used to losing, you accept it. He'll never get used to it."

Terrence Jones on Twitter:
TerrenceJones1: Houston!!!!! #blessed

All in all a good night for the Cats. Cal's one liners through out the night were priceless.

UK MADE HISTORY...AGAIN

Teague goes at #29 to Chicago

Teague gets drafted at #29 to Chicago. Good fit for him. This gives Kentucky 4 picks in the first round with one pick left. Here's to hoping for Darius Miller or Doron Lamb to get picked.

Davis to New Orleans

To the shock of.... absoluetly no one, Davis goes #1 to the New Orleans Hornets giving John Calipari his third #1 draft pick, and The University of Kentucky its second #1 draft pick. John Wall was the first for Kentucky.

Terrence Jones selected at #18

Terrence Jones goes #18 to Houston. Joining Patrick Patterson to bring some BBN flavor to the Lone Star State.

Gilchrist goes #2

MKG gets selected at #2 to the Bobcats. This is the first time two players from the same college team get picked 1 and 2 in the NBA Draft

The Kentucky Draft?

While watching EPSN's NBA Draft preview, I'm 20 minutes in, and it already feels like an episode of "Inside Kentucky Basketball". There is, as expected A LOT of Kentucky talk surrounding the draft. It couldn't get anymore awesome.

To those who say "one and done's" are bad for college basketball, Your right. There's nothing worse than having your team, university, and coach being the talk at the draft.

Another award for Anthony Davis

Just hours away from being the #1 pick in the NBA Draft, Anthony Davis wins another award for his already full trophy case.

This time the SEC has named Davis its 2011-12 Roy F. Kramer SEC Male Athlete of the Year, awarded by the league’s athletics directors.

As if there was any other choice for the award.

BIG CUZ ready for CATS to be drafted

Nothing else can be said about the ability of Coach Cal to put people in the pros.

The night before the Draft

As #BBN prepares to watch tomorrow nights NBA Draft and see what Kentucky player goes where, the above pics are just a reminder of what these guys accomplished while at Kentucky. If your anything like me, seeing these pics never get old.

NBA draft player analysis

Seth Davis wrote an article giving someone's thoughts on some of the players in this years NBA Draft. Here are some of the ones I found interesting.

Terrence Jones: "I'm not as high on him as a lot of people are. I don't view him as a strong athlete, and I don't view him as a strong. Ull, either. He's kind of in between. He wants to be a three, but he's a four who can dribble. He'll make just enough shots that you have to go get him. Whoever drafts him is going to have to keep a thumb on him, because he's not a self-starter. That's a problem at this level.
Jones must not have been very impressive in his workouts according to this statement, and the fall his draft status has taken.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist: "Your first reaction is how hard he plays. He's not crazy long, but he's long enough. He's not a great shooter, but when guys work that hard, they tend to get better. He's as athletic as Gerald Wallace, but he's a better shooter. He needs to work on his shooting and his ball handling is just average."

Doron Lamb: "Very solid basketball player. Can shoot it, and defend. He'd be a good combo guard coming off the bench.

Marquis Teague: "The biggest thing about him is he got better as a point guard, but he should have gone back to school. He's not going to be playing Mississippi State or Auburn up here. He's fast but he's not quick with the dribble. He doesn't get in the paint and create. He's an average ball handler. One thing he does have going for him is he's a high character kid."
That last line doesn't sound good for Teague. That's like someone asking if their blind date is good looking and get the "they're very nice" response.

Darius Miller: "I like this guy. He'll figure out a way. I could see him being a good rotation player, like Danny Green or James Jones. He'll know how to play his role."

Anthony Davis: "I have zero red flags. People say strength, but he's no weaker than Kevin Durant was. Whatever "IT" is, this kids got it. He has a little bit of Tim Duncan and a little bit of Durant. The sky's the limit."

The next one I just found I interesting.

Austin Rivers: "My biggest concern with him is size. He's never going to. E a pure point because it's not in his personality. He's a capable passer, but he hasn't been a willing passer. He's hard to play with, frankly, because he dominates the ball. It depends who the coach is. I did not like what I saw at Duke. I thought he was spoiled and selfish. He's a streaky outside shooter, not a great one."
Bet his review makes Doc Rivers and Coach K very happy. It did me.

The NBA Draft is one of my favorite nights of the year. And this draft should be like the last few, A LOT of Kentucky flavor.

Davis and Charlie Sheen

Former Wildcat Anthony Davis is keeping some pretty good company now day's. Here he is with Charlie Sheen backstage at Jimmy Fallon. Wonder if Anthony can get Sheen off "Tiger Blood" , and get him on some "Wildcat Blood"!

Anthony Davis on Jimmy Fallon

Former Wildcat (that hurts to say) and soon to be #1 NBA Draft pick, Anthony Davis is scheduled to be on Jimmy Fallon tomorrow (6-25-2012) night at 12:35am. It's great to see Anthony get this kind of attention. But what makes it better is the guests he is scheduled with. First, everyone's favorite loose cannon, Charlie Sheen. Then, The King of All Media's "Howard Stern" wife, Beth Stern. Now that is a line up worth staying up late for!

UK NCAA Championship rings

The players and staff have received their National Championship rings (the good ones, not the hideous ones from the NCAA). Thanks to Eloy Vargas for posting a picture of his for BBN to see. Hopefully there will be more of these rocks to come.

One CAT in the NBA Finals...

Last we got one former Wildcat in the NBA Finals when the Oklahoma City Thunder and Nazr Mohammed defeated the Spurs. Can we get another former CAT in the Finals tonight in the Celtics vs. the Heat?

Hornets newest player

If there was any doubt (and that's a big IF) about who the Hornets are going to select with the first pick in this years NBA draft, the cover of the newest SLAM magazine should erase it.
